Welcome to the greatest future climb of your life – Mt. Kilimanjaro
Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain in the world. While that may sound daunting, the climb is achievable at any age. For instance, on July 20th, 2017, Dr. Fred Distelorst, a retired orthodontist from Vail, Colorado, became, at age 88, the oldest person to ever climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. The previous record holder, Angela Vorobeva, set her record on October 29th, 2015 at the age of 86!
While stats are limited, approximately 25,000 to 30,000 people attempt the summit each year with over an 80% success rate. Most people that do not finish have either, 1) Preexisting health conditions; 2) Do not pay for a travel guide and oxygen tanks to support lung capacity if necessary; 3) Climb too fast. (this is usually a younger group).
The bottom line from base camp to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro is only 3,241 ft. For those from Atlanta, that is like climbing Kennesaw Mountain or Stone Mountain twice…NOT TOO BAD! We know you can do this!
And if none of those stats impress you, take Kyle Maynard for example! He is the first quadruple amputee to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro without the aid of prosthetics, how remarkable is that?
The bottom line
You can climb this mountain at any age and almost any condition. It is more about your will to succeed and your determination! We are so excited to gather a group of like-minded individuals to ascend Mount KM in Summer 2020! Start planning your trip now by contacting us!
